An Android app by GSK Studio
Last updated: October 18, 2026
GSK Studio ("we", "us" or "our") operates the FTTH Toolkit mobile application (the "App"). The App helps the owners and technicians of fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband franchises keep records of their own network: OLTEs, PON ports, joint boxes, cables, splitters, and which customer is connected to which splitter output. It is not tied to any one service provider. This page explains what the App stores, where it is kept, who can see it, and the choices you have.
In short: You sign in with an email address and a password. The records you and your team enter are kept in your franchise on Google's Firebase servers, and only the members of your franchise can see them. The App does not keep customers' names, phone numbers or addresses, only a short customer reference. If you add photos to a joint, they are kept in your franchise too, and only its members can see them. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking. You can delete your account inside the App.
Accounts and roles
You need an account to use the App. An owner creates a franchise and can invite technicians to it with a one-time code that expires after 7 days. A technician can belong to more than one franchise with the same login. The owner can add, edit and delete records and manage the team. Technicians can add and correct records, but only the owner can delete them.
What the App stores
- Your account: your name, email address and password. The password is held by Google's Firebase Authentication in a protected form. We cannot see it.
- Your place in a franchise: the franchise name, your role (owner or technician), whether your login is active, the date you joined, and the code you used to join.
- The team: the owner can see the names and email addresses of the people in the franchise. Technicians cannot see the team list.
- Network records: the OLTEs (name, location text you type, number of PON ports), the joints on each PON (label, cable number, make, number of fibres, OMR and CMR marks, notes, splitters and their outputs) and the position of each joint when you give one.
- Photos of joints: a photo you take with your phone's camera, or choose from your phone's photos, to show a joint box, its cable or its splitters. You can add up to 4 photos to a joint. Before sending, the App makes a smaller copy of the photo on your phone and sends that copy. A photo may carry details that your phone's camera adds to it, such as the time and, if your camera is set to record it, the place it was taken. Everyone in the franchise can see its photos and add photos. Only the owner can delete a photo. Please photograph only the joint box, the cable and the splitters, and not people, customers' homes or vehicle number plates.
- Customer references: for each connected splitter output, a short reference number you type (for example the last digits of a customer ID) and whether the connection is working or faulty. The App has no place for a customer's name, phone number or address. Please do not type them in the reference or note fields.
- Fault log: each fault entry you log: the OLTE and PON it is on, a place in your own words, a joint if you pick one, the cause, a note, when it was found and when service was restored, how many joints were opened to fix it, and the name of the person who logged it and of the person who marked it restored (the name shown at that time). Everyone in the franchise can read the fault log. The owner and the technicians can log, correct and mark faults restored, and only the owner can delete an entry. When you start from the fault helper, the note is filled in with the references of the customers that were down, and you can change it. Please do not type a customer's name, phone number or address in the place or note.
- Monthly report: the fault report is worked out on your phone from the fault log each time you open it. It is not saved or sent anywhere else.
- Change history: each addition, correction, deletion, restore, photo added or deleted, and team change is written down with what changed, the earlier and new values, when, and who made the change (the name shown at that time). Only the owner can read the history.
Location
The App asks for your precise location only when you ask for it: when you tap the button that fills in the position of a joint, and when you open Near me, which lists the joints closest to you. It reads your position once each time. It does not read your location in the background, does not follow you, and does not know where you are at any other time. A position is saved only when you save it with a joint, and you can also type the coordinates by hand or leave them empty. For Near me, the position is used on your phone to work out the distances, and it is not saved or sent anywhere.
Permissions the App uses
- Internet to sign in and to read and save your franchise's records.
- Location as described above. It is optional. If you refuse it, you can still use the App and type the coordinates yourself, but Near me will not work.
The App does not ask for permission to use your camera or your photos. When you tap Add photo, it hands you over to your phone's own camera or photo picker and receives only the one photo you take or choose. It cannot see the rest of your photo gallery. The App does not use your microphone, contacts or calendar.
Where your information is kept
Your account and your franchise's records are kept with Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore and Cloud Storage for Firebase), services provided by Google. The photos are kept in Cloud Storage in a Google data centre in Mumbai, India. Google processes this information for us to run the App, and its own privacy policy applies to how Google handles it (see the Google Privacy Policy). Google may also process technical details such as your IP address when the App connects, as part of running these services.
Google encrypts the information while it travels and while it is stored. The App also keeps a copy on your phone so that it can work with a weak connection. Changes you make without internet are sent when your phone is back online. Uninstalling the App removes that copy.
Access to a franchise is limited by rules in the database and in the photo storage: only the people who have an active login in that franchise can read its records and see its photos. Other franchises cannot see them. As the developer, we can open the database through the Firebase console. We do this only to keep the App working, to look into a problem you report to us, or to carry out a deletion request.
Sharing
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. It goes to Google only as the provider that runs the servers, as described above.
The owner can export the franchise's records as spreadsheet files (CSV) with the Export data menu. The files are made on the phone and handed to the app the owner chooses from the phone's own share menu, for example email or WhatsApp. They contain the joints, cable details, notes, positions and customer references. From then on the privacy policy of the app you chose applies, and the owner is responsible for who receives the files.
The owner can also share the records as one PDF from the same menu, to read or print. It lists the joints of each OLTE, PON by PON, with their cables, splitters, distances and notes. It counts the customers on each joint and never includes customer references. The PDF is made on the phone, is not sent to us and is not stored in the database, and is handed to the app the owner chooses from the phone's own share menu. From then on the privacy policy of that app applies, and the owner is responsible for who receives it.
On a joint's page, anyone in the franchise can tap Navigate or Share. Navigate opens Google Maps, or your browser, with the joint's position as the destination, and Google handles it under its own privacy policy. Share hands the joint's details to the app you choose: its label, its place in the network, its cable, its position with a map link, and its note. It never includes customer references.
On a PON's page, anyone in the franchise can tap Share this route as an image. The picture is made on the phone from the drawing on the screen and handed to the app you choose from the phone's own share menu, for example WhatsApp or email. It is not sent to us and is not stored in the database. Unlike a joint's Share, the picture does show the customer references on that PON, together with its joints, cables and splitters, the date, and the fault suspects when the fault helper's answer is on the route. The App shows a reminder before you share it. From then on the privacy policy of the app you chose applies, and the person who shares the picture is responsible for who receives it.
Photos are not shared by any of these. They are not part of the spreadsheet files, the PDF, a joint's Share or the route picture. The spreadsheet files carry only the number of photos on each joint. The App shows a photo only to the signed-in members of the franchise that owns it.
Advertising and tracking
The App shows no ads. It uses no analytics, crash-reporting or tracking tools.
How long we keep your information
- Your account and your franchise's records are kept until you delete your account, or until the owner deletes the records.
- When the owner deletes a joint, it is hidden from the team and kept so that the owner can restore it within 30 days. After 30 days it is erased for good; this happens by itself the next time the owner opens the app. The change history keeps a note that the joint was deleted. Deleted joints are also erased together with the franchise when the owner deletes their account.
- When the owner removes a technician, the technician's login stops working. The record of that person stays in the team list, marked as removed, so the owner can restore it.
- An OLTE the owner deletes is erased at once. The change history keeps a note that it was deleted.
- Fault log entries are kept until the owner deletes them, or deletes the franchise. The change history keeps a note that an entry was deleted.
- A photo is kept until the owner deletes it, or deletes the joint for good, or deletes the franchise. When the owner deletes a photo, it is erased at once, and the change history keeps a note that a photo was deleted. The photos of a deleted joint stay hidden with it for the 30 days described above and are then erased with it.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account inside the App: menu, Settings, Delete my account. The App asks for your password and then asks you to confirm. What happens depends on your role:
- Owner: your account and the whole franchise are deleted: its OLTEs, joints, photos, customer references, fault log, change history, team list and technician codes. Your technicians lose access at once.
- Technician: your account and your login in each franchise are deleted. The joints, photos, fault log entries and other records you added stay with the franchise, because they belong to its owner. The change history keeps the name that was shown for each change you made.
If you cannot use the App, you can ask us to delete your account by email. The steps, and what is deleted or kept, are on the account deletion page. Google may keep backup copies for a limited period after deletion, as described in its own terms.
Your choices
- See and correct: you can see your records in the App and correct them there. The owner can also read the change history.
- Export: an owner can export the franchise's records at any time, as spreadsheet files or as a PDF. Photos are not part of the export.
- Photos: you choose each photo you add. The owner can delete any photo.
- Delete: you can delete your account as described above.
- Location: you can switch the location permission off at any time in your phone's Settings, under Apps, FTTH Toolkit, Permissions.
Children's privacy
The App is a work tool for people who run or maintain FTTH networks. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Data security
We use Google's authentication and database services, and the database rules described above, to keep your information private. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a password that you do not use anywhere else, and sign out on a phone that is not yours.
